As We Walk in The Storm

In life, there will always come a time when you will be caught in a storm. No matter how bad the storm may seem or how long it may last, there is a reason behind it and one man will always stand in the midst of it all. His name is Jesus.

Plain and simple life gets hard. With life comes stress, anxiety, fear, worry, along with a multitude of other hardships. When faced with storms it’s easy to find cover in things that help you deal with adversity. Yet whatever you turn to will never have the power to cease the storm you find yourself in. Jesus is here for us in these times. In all things, the Lord will be the one to shelter us.

“This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust in him”. – Psalms 91:2

The Lord we serve is more than any help you seek outside of him. He isn’t the one that will help you find cover in your times of struggle, instead, he is the comfort in times as such. When the storm rages on where does your faith lie?

“Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.” – Matthew 8:24-26

We must be courageous in our faith. Jesus sleeps amid storms, not because he doesn’t care, but because he knows the power he possesses. If we replaced worry with prayer, and fear with faith, we have access to a peace that transcends all understanding. (Philippians 4:6-7)

When our storms hit we are like the disciples, we panic for what’s to come. The disciples didn’t see the storm through, as soon as it began their faith immediately shrunk. They didn’t give Jesus time to cease the chaos. We must allow Christ to work according to his plan. If we walk in Christ part-time we will never understand what God is doing. Once we decide to be devoted to Christ full-time we will experience full-time faith, and the storm is capable of working out for your good.

Romans 8:28 – “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

God makes everything work together for our good. Not according to the plans we have, but according to the plans God has for us. We often get lost. We plan according to what we want in life, not what we need. The Lord’s plan for us is exactly what we need, more than we could ever think of. God doesn’t show us the whole plot for our life. His thoughts are higher than ours will ever be. He gives us bits of his plan, piece by piece, knowing it’s enough for us to handle. Certainly, new trials and tribulations will present themselves.

Here are things to do to prepare for them.

Look to God:

“Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.” – Hebrews 2:18

Jesus went through a tremendous amount of storms himself. He was tested by Satan, persecuted, betrayed, but through all of it, Jesus never withered in his faith. He fulfilled God’s plan and gave his life for us upon the cross for us.

Embrace what’s ahead:

This might not sound appealing, but we must embrace the tribulations. We don’t change if life remains comfortable. For us to become better, we have to experience hardships. This lets us know where we can modify our life and what needs to change for God.

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation”.- Romans 5:3-5

Know that storms are to come:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”John‬ 16:33‬

We will experience trouble. This is certain, rather than attempting to escape such times, we ought to build our faith for when these times come. Your faith will not wither during tribulations when it’s built up to be a strong foundation.
