As We Walk in Who We Are

Doubt is a monster defeated by knowing who we are. Too many times we think of ourselves as others do. We allow others’ opinions to dictate who we are. Or we allow our negative thoughts to consume how we think of ourselves, but who does God say we are?

Growing up we all heard the saying “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”. This was preached when I was younger but in all honesty, words can hurt if we allow them to. It’s as though we take compliments with a grain of salt but insults and judgment as if our life depended on them, I speak from experience. Studies show that the negative stimuli we carry are believed to have greater informational value than positive stimuli, meaning the negative stimuli requires greater attention (Vaish, Grossmann, & Woodward, 2008). When we cloud our minds with negativity driven by what others think of who we are, our mind has no choice but to account for the negativity. We must see who God says we are, fill our minds with this, and we have to know the power Christ has given us.

“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you” ~ Luke 10:19.

Let’s look at what God has given us and use it as he wants us to! He has given you the authority to overcome the enemy, to overcome the spirit of evil, and to not walk over it but to crush this evil on your way past it. By the spirit of the Lord, we have this authority. No one’s negativity has the power to weaken what God has given us. No one’s words will do no harm once you stand firm in the spirit of authority God has given you. Only God has the right to tell us what we’re made of and who we are because he handcrafted us in this way. Take God’s grace and use it over the spirit of doubt, judgment, fear, over any spirit of evil that presents itself. We are all children of the Lord but we lose sight of this.

“For in him we live and move and have our being.” Acts 17:28

God created us to be His children. As some of your poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.” When we are alive we get the privilege to live and move, more often than not we do this with no knowledge that we are living within Christ, we fail to realize that our existence lies within him, that we are his children. Once we come to realize this it is our priority to move with a purpose. If we were to live in our negative thoughts we would never be able to move with a purpose. Instead, we would miss out on our purpose, which so many of us struggle with. We find ourselves getting stuck with trying to answer a question God has repeatedly answered. You are a child of the Lord. Yet this doesn’t stop here. God has permitted us to be this and more, God made you to be more.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Who are you? A light.  Without light, the world would be cold, dark, and blind. Do not allow someone to walk blindly in the world when you can light the way to their salvation. Don’t hide the light that you possess because you are afraid of what others would say, or because that voice in your head tells you you’re not good enough.  Embrace who you are, that is who God made you to be. All lights shine differently yet they are still a source of light.

Things to do :

Remind yourself who you are daily :

Galatians 3:26 says “So in Christ Jesus, you are all children of God through faith” The new day presents its situations we must handle but one thing for certain is that whatever the day holds, this does not change who God says you are. It is easy to forget this, that is why studying God’s word daily is essential. In doing this no matter the negative thoughts or words that come your way, they will have no power against the truth that is the words of the Lord.

Know someone will always attempt to persecute you:

“Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master’. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.” – John 15:20

If you walk upright in the spirit of the Lord, evil will pursue you. You are a child of God and the enemy knows what power you possess, he will try anything, through anyone in order for you to stop using your God-given power.

Let your light shine:

We have the power to change someone’s life by walking in the light God has gifted us. Being a light in this world encourages others to walk in theirs. Unlock the light that is yours, whether that is motivating, volunteering, speaking, being the only bright spot at work, consistently being joyful, or even going over and beyond for others. Everyone has a light and you have the possibility of changing one’s life by walking in yours.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

We Must Remember.

I was convicted to write this message when I was in church a few Sundays ago. As I was praising in the Lord’s presence, the overwhelming presence of his love-filled me. Next thing I know the words “I remember” began to mutter out my mouth. From there nothing could stop the tears that swelled up

We Need A Savior

The word salvation comes from the root word “salvare” which means “to save”. When we receive salvation, we allow Jesus to come into our lives and be our savior, but why do we need saving? Because we are sinners. Sin has been in this world since the beginning of time, yet Jesus came down to
